Hi, I’m Technical Sergeant Allison Comtois. I am a native Northeast Kingdom Vermonter and graduated from North Country Union High School in 1996. While I was still in high school and at the age of 17, I joined the Navy and the experiences I have gone through with the Navy and the Vermont Air National Guard have shaped me into the person I am today: a sailor, a cop, an airman, a nurse, and most importantly – a mother. I can’t imagine what my life would have been like if I had not joined the military. I was able to live in Guam for 5 years, travel the world and work with amazing people who I am still friends with today. In 2004, when I moved back to Vermont after separating from Active Duty Navy and serving with the Navy Reserve, I wanted to continue to serve my country.
As soon as I toured the Vermont Air National Guard, I felt immediately at home, welcomed, and knew I found the place where I would complete the rest of my military service. While continuing to serve part-time, I have been able to work as a police officer and a Nurse. I am so wholly grateful for the opportunities I have experienced in my 22+ years of service! I frequently get asked, “can’t you retire?”, and yes I can retire, but why would I want to leave an organization that supports me and provides me with so many benefits, not just monetary, but psychological, emotional, and spiritual as well.
